The modern Love of February

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (1Corinthians 13:4-8).

February month is dedicated as the month of love. Wherein love is the whole topic all over. Yet, is also the month of loveliness for couples, loneliness for singles and bitterness for brokenhearted. It’s kind of a weird yet that’s the reality. And me, I think I’m belong to the single ones, and I choose to stay with my loyal best friends and cuddle with them, my bed, favorite pillow and blanket, ahaha a little bit creepy LoL. The 14th day of February as the climax of the month were we celebrates the hearts day or Valentine’s Day. An annual celebration about love. It’s also the feast day of St. Valentine who begins to spread it in the year 496 AD.

Valentine’s Day is not new to us. Roses, chocolates, teddy bears and cakes are the usual gifts that partners and couples giving each other. Some have their dates, wearing red shirts sign of their infinite love.

Despite of the sweetness of lovely couples, partners and between girlfriends and boyfriends, how do they really meet or know deeply each other before they legally courtship? Did the modern times affect the usual “panliligaw”.

A testimonial from Mr. & Mrs. Romel and Jessica Angeles who meet and develop thru “txtmates” and “chat” on the social media site “Facebook”.

“18 years old ako noon, magkachat kami tapos nagpalitan kami ng cellphone numbers. Una dinaman ako seryoso kasi txtmate nga lang kami, pero sa pamamagitan nun nagkadepelopan kami. After 1 month pa ata kami nun bago magkita at yun parang after namen magkita sineryoso ko at sineryoso naman nya”, stated by Mrs. Angeles.

Meeting a boy or girl thru “chat” and “txtmates” is complicated specially it’s hard because first, you can’t really know the person whom you chatting, second, you can’t understand exactly about your feelings and thoughts, lastly, you can’t easily trust that person.

“Hindi ako nagdalawang isip na magpakita sa kanya, kasi thru txt palang parang mayfeelings nako kahit diko pa sya nakikita, ewan bat ganun pero alam ko nun that time eh gusto ko syang makita at after magkita nahulog na yung loob ko sa kanya agad-agad, love at first site ba kung baga”, Mr. Angeles said.

Love at first site can’t really explain the meaning of it. Others believed but some are not.

“Nagpapasalamat kami at nagkakilala kami sa txt at facebook. Kung di dahil dun di kami nagkita at nagkatuluyan. Naniniwala kami na walang pinipili ang pag-ibig, kusang lalapit kahit ayaw mo. Basta mahalaga nagmamahalain kami”, ended by Mr. & Mrs. Angeles.

In the whole testimony, both of them didn’t matter where they knew each other. True love invades them as cupid shot their hearts. Because love will never choose whom you want, destiny will choose for you. As F. Scott Fitzgerald said; “There are all kinds of love in this world but never the same love twice.”
